About The Prints

Next

Mountain Images were the original producers of specialist mountain prints in the United Kindgom - our first print, Ben Nevis in Winter Raiment was published in 1983. Today, more than 25 years later, our range of prints has grown considerably and they now are produced using the very latest giclee print technologies - which means that they are prepared individually for each and every customer.

We exercise the same dedication to perfecting excellence in the finished print as our photographers do to creating the oustanding image in the field, particularly when such stunning images merit reproduction to only the highest possible standards. We are proud of our now long-standing reputation for manufacturing superb exclusive high quality mountain prints from the finest materials. We acknowledge that our prints probably do cost a few pounds more than some of our competitors, but we consider that our customers appreciate the quality of our product and the service we provide.

The Finest Papers and the Latest Print Technologies

All our prints are individually manufactured at a high resolution using the very latest inkjet (giclee) technologies with the highest quality archival papers and 100-year pigment-based lightfast inks; they have both the look and feel of photographic images obtained using more traditional wet halide processes.

Our high quality Mountain Prints from photographic images are produced on a paper which is resin-coated and has a soft lustre finish similar to that often used by portrait and wedding photographers. Weighing in at 260 grams per square metre, it produces vivid and highly saturated prints with very fine detail. We consider these prints to be substantially superior to those made using traditional halide materials because they exhibit greater highlight and shadow detail and they do not deteriorate or fade over time.

For our Limited Edition Mountain Art Prints we use a paper with a matt finish which weighs in at 195 grams per square metre. The paper is engineered to give the highest resolution possible and is perfect for the reproduction of both oil and watercolour paintings produced on a wide range of specialist textured artists' paper and canvas.

Print Sizes

Our prints come in a range of shapes and sizes; each image is printed to a size and in a format which best suits the composition and the media upon which it was originally captured. We do not produce the same image in more than one format. The image size of each product, along with miniature illustrations of the finished print produced to scale are displayed on the individual point of sale pages. When you decide which print you want to buy, an illustration of the product will be presented to you along with precise details of its dimensions, characteristics and price.

Print Borders and Mountain Images/Sandra Hugill Gallery 'Branding'

The term "Print Size" refers to the dimensions of the sheet of paper that we ship the print on, whilst "Image Size" refers to the dimensions of the actual printed image itself. All our images are supplied with a white border of between 2 and 3 inches in width depending upon the print format. This border contains the text 'Mountain Images'or 'Sandra Hugill Gallery' along with the print title. This text is hidden behind the bevelled mount when the print is framed.

Made in Scotland - Exclusively for our Customers

Unlike many of the prints or posters that you can buy at high street shops and from some of our competitors, all our prints are individually manufactured in our studio in Scotland ( not in China ! ). We maintain that 'exclusive' really should mean exclusive. It is our view that prints manufactured in bulk and sold through numerous retail outlets cannot, and should not, be termed exclusive. Our superb panoramic and traditional mountain prints are expertly produced on high quality papers; they are sold exclusively and directly to you, our most valued customers, and to no-one else

Real Mountain Landscape Photographs - No Digital Manipulation

Mountain Images' Photographer, Ian Evans
Nature has gifted us with an abundance of mountain landscapes, rich in diversity both of form and of character. Our enjoyment of a journey into the mountains is often enhanced by the atmospheric conditions and fleeting displays of light that we encounter which have mystical, sometimes even magical qualities. The sensitive and enlightened mountain photographer will always ensure that any image he captures conveys to the viewer not only the scene that lies before him, but also the emotions he experiences created by this environment of which he has now become a part. The resulting image is in every way representative of that moment - spontaneous, natural and unique. This image is genuine, a natural art form, not something imagined or contrived by man sometime later in a studio by trickery or manipulation.

Ian Evans, from "The Magic of Mountain Light", 2005

All our prints are produced from images which are consistent in every detail with the composition, mood and colours that were captured by the photographers in the field. Apart from the removal of minor blemishes, faults or technical imperfections frequently produced during processing of the image in camera or film in development, it is our strict policy NOT to digitally manipulate or enhance images. It is now common practice for landscape photographers to artifically increase the dynamic range of colour displayed in an image to make the scene more striking. This is not the case at Mountain Images. When you buy one of our prints, what you get is an honest and true representation of what the photographer saw on the day !!
