About The Prints

High Quality Panoramic and Landscape Photographic Prints of Mountains

Introduction

I founded Mountain Images in 1983, and I am pleased and proud of the long-standing reputation that I have achieved for producing specialist and exclusive high quality mountain prints. I continue, today, to exercise the same dedication to perfecting excellence in my prints as I do in creating the outstanding image in the field. My prints are painstakingly crafted and printed from only my very best images and produced individually for each and every customer.

I carry out only the minimal amount of corrective work on the original digital negatives obtained from scans or directly from the camera; they are not colour enhanced, over-saturated, over-sharpened nor over-worked. Each and every image is an accurate and natural reproduction of the view I saw on the day I captured it.

Source of Images

I captured the vast majority of my print images to strictly observed standards using high end professional cameras and lenses which included :-

The Fuji GA645Zi, a medium format autofocus rangefinder film camera with a zoom range of 55-90mm capturing images in 6 x 4.5 cm format on 120 roll film.

The Fujifilm GX617 Panoramic Camera, a professional, medium format, wide-field camera capturing images with a 3:1 aspect ratio measuring 6 x 17 cm on 120 roll film.

The Canon EOS 5D range of full-frame 35mm digital SLR cameras of which I used all versions up to the Mark III which employed a 22.3 megapixel sensor.

The Nikon D800 range of professional full frame 35mm digital SLR cameras, in particular the D810 and, most recently, the D850 full-frame 45.8 megapixel DSLR – Nikon’s top technical performance camera of all time for nature and landscape photography.

Print Quality and Dimensions

Printed image quality is maintained by respecting the relationship between the original image size and the final print size; optimising the level of magnification between the two ensures that my prints always contain infinite and crisp subject detail.

I print all my images on paper with a plain white border which is at least 50mm wide. The border supports the print title and copyright information.

I produce prints in both panoramic and landscape format. Print and image dimensions are provided on all the individual product pages and also at the foot of the home page of this website.

Printers, Papers and Inks

The appearance and quality of a finished print also depends as much upon the printing process and the media used as it does on the actual image itself. This is something that customers frequently overlook when selecting a particular photographer’s work and making a purchase.

In the hands of professionals the specialist media offered by printer manufacturers work perfectly well and produces excellent results. A premium coating preserves their haptic exclusiveness and guarantees long-lasting true-to-detail prints.

All my prints are, and always have been, produced on Epson Professional printers. After many years of experience and experimentation with numerous and considerably more expensive fine art papers I still produce my prints on either Epson Premium Semi-Gloss or Epson Premium Lustre Papers – depending upon availability at the time.

These flat, stiff, middle-weight papers, weighing in at either 255 or 265 gms, have a smooth pearl-like finish, a neutral white base and an instant dry, microporous coating. With their wide colour gamut and a high D-MAX they deliver superb, beautiful renditions of all my images be they of either British or Himalayan scenes.

The choice of ink is also important and so I print my images on the very latest Epson printers using Ultrachrome HDR pigment inks. These printers take inkjet (giclee) technology to an entirely new level with higher colour accuracy, greater subtlety and smoother gradations.

Packaging and Despatch

After you have made your purchase and I have prepared your chosen print, the next step in the process is packaging and despatch. I do this in a manner that ensures that you receive your print promptly and in perfect condition.

The first stage in this process is to leave your print to rest for 24 hours to allow a process called ‘outgassing’ during which the inks dry and cure.

Once this is complete the print is then lightly and loosely rolled and ‘double-wrapped’ in tissue paper to protect the delicate print surfaces and to enable the print’s safe removal from the outer packinging upon receipt by the customer.

The completed product is then placed into a sturdy cardboard postal tube of 2.5mm wall thickness along with a Certificate of Authenticity and care instructions. This is then sealed and despatched using a 24 hour tracked service.
